Pimp your laptop – Part 1 – Windows

This video series will be all about getting the best performance out of your laptop. It will include hardware, Windows and software tips and tricks. I’ll tell you everything i can to make using your laptop more enjoyable. In this first part i talk about software and common misconceptions about Vista. I also briefly explain how you can discover driver problems, and the next part will be about solving these problems. Useful software: QuickPlay Remapper by yours truly – Change the function of the QuickPlay buttons on your HP laptop to anything you wish: www.quickplay.hostzi.com nVidia mobile drivers: www.laptopvideo2go.com Avira antivirus: www.free-av.com AVG antivirus free edition: www.free.avg.com CCleaner – clean temporary files, freeing space and speeding up your system: www.ccleaner.com DPC Latency Checker – discover driver conflicts, find out why your audio is dropping out: www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml And there’s probably many more which i forgot to mention. I’m sorry for the rushed ending but i had to fit in 10 minutes… I’ll explain the DPC latency checker more in the next vid, IMPORTANT:: All the HP Vista installs i have seen so far present DPC latency issues, which translate into audio crackles/pops/stutters and video lags. I can easily see other manufacturers being the same… On both my HP laptops (DV9000 and DV5) i was able to get rid of the stutters with a clean installation of Windows 7 and by only installing the drivers from HP, not any helper
